Use the board

Move work across columns, set WIP limits, and open item details on the Skopo Kanban board.

The board is the primary place to visualise and move work through your project's workflow columns.

Before you start

  • You must be a project member (any role) to view the board.
  • To create or update work items, you need at least a Member role.
  • Board column names depend on your methodology. See /docs/methodologies for the specific columns each methodology defines.

Steps

  1. Open your project and click Board in the project sidebar.
  2. You will see the board with columns corresponding to your project's workflow states (for example, Backlog, To Do, In Review, Done in a Basic project). Each column shows a count badge; if a WIP limit is set, the badge shows cards / limit.
  3. To create a new item, click New item in the top bar, or click the + button inside any column. The New item button defaults to adding to the Backlog column; the + within a column pre-selects that column's status.
  4. To move a card to a different column, drag it from its current column and drop it onto the destination column. A blue drop indicator line appears when the drop target is active.
  5. To reorder cards within a column, drag a card above or below another card in the same column. A blue insertion line marks the position.
  6. If a column has a WIP limit, the count badge changes colour when you approach or exceed the limit. A Blocking WIP policy prevents moves into the column until capacity is available.
  7. To open the detail drawer for a work item, click the card. The drawer shows the item's full description, status, estimate, assignee, labels, and linked pull request.
  8. To filter the board by assignee, label, or work type, click Filter in the top bar and choose your criteria.
  9. To change how cards are grouped, click Group: Status and select an alternative grouping from the dropdown.

Result

Work items move through your workflow columns, WIP limits are enforced, and the whole team can see live updates when a teammate moves a card (a brief move notice appears in the top-right corner of the board).
