Switch methodology

You can change a project's methodology from project Settings. Skopo shows you which work item types, workflow states, rituals, and metrics will change before you apply the migration.

Before you start

• Only workspace owners can change a project's methodology setup.
• Switching methodology is a significant change. Existing work items remain, but their types and statuses may be remapped to the new methodology's workflow.
• Review the available methodologies at /docs/methodologies before deciding.
• If your workspace has a published custom methodology template, it will also appear as an option.

Steps

Open the methodology settings

1. Open your project and click Project Settings in the project sidebar.
2. Scroll down to the Methodology setup section (heading: METHODOLOGY SETUP).
3. The section shows the current methodology name and version (for example, "Basic v1") and any configurable settings and optional practices for the active methodology.

Configure methodology settings and practices

1. In the Settings sub-section, adjust any configurable toggles, select fields, or number inputs specific to your current methodology.
2. In the Optional practices sub-section, toggle on or off any optional practices. Each practice shows a label, description, and optionally a "from [methodology]" badge if it is borrowed from another methodology.
3. Click Save methodology setup to apply setting or practice changes. Click Reset to discard unsaved changes.

Switch to a different methodology

The Methodology setup section in Project Settings configures settings and optional practices for the project's current methodology. It does not include a control for switching to a different methodology. Methodology switching is initiated from the workspace Methodologies page.

1. Navigate to your workspace and click Methodologies in the workspace sidebar to see available methodology templates (built-in and published custom templates).
2. Choose the methodology you want and start a migration. Skopo first shows a preview of how your current work item types, workflow states, artifacts, and metrics map to the new methodology.
3. Review the preview, then confirm to apply the migration. Switching is always a two-step preview-then-apply action, so nothing changes until you confirm.

Result

Your project runs under the new methodology. The sidebar navigation updates to show only the views relevant to the new methodology, and the Insights page reflects the new metric bundle.
